Research and Post Operative Care Optometrist

Dr. Laura Huggins was born and raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2001 from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry (NSUOCO). While at NSUOCO Dr. Huggins underwent extensive training in ocular disease management, including diabetes and glaucoma, and received laser certification for minor surgical procedures. After graduation, Dr. Huggins worked in private practice in Tulsa and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, specializing in contact lenses, glaucoma, and post-operative management.

In 2011, Dr. Huggins relocated to Bakersfield and in 2015 joined the team of providers at Empire Eye and Laser Center. Dr. Huggins is licensed to treat a wide range of ocular diseases, including diabetes, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, and specializes in the pre- and post-operative care of surgical patients. Dr. Huggins regularly collaborates on clinical research trials and is passionate about providing her patients with the best possible care through advanced treatments and technologies.

Dr. Huggins enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering her skills at public vision screenings and with charitable vision organizations like OneSight. She also regularly volunteers with her kids’ schools. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her three boys (usually at Disneyland), reading and relaxing with her two dogs.
