WHAT IS IPL?

Intense Pulse Light (IPL) has been known more commonly for cosmetic treatment for Rosacea, vascularization, and pigmentation, it has reemerged as a new treatment for the rising issue of Ocular Rosacea. It involves the application of high-intensity broad-spectrum (infrared to blue) light pulses that penetrate the affected regions of the skin to inflammation.

IPL is an in-office procedure that takes about 20 minutes. During the procedure, your eyes will be covered with a protective shield. A cooling gel will be applied to the treatment area and your eye care professional will use the handheld IPL machine to administer the treatment.

For optimal results, four treatments are recommended usually a month apart. However, some patients may require more.

ON 4-SERIES OF INTENSE PULSED LIGHT (IPL) DRY EYE THERAPY

Stop reaching for those eye drops every ten minutes and start treating the source of your discomfort!
Spring in the Central Valley is beautiful, but the almond blooms and Bakersfield dust can make your eyes feel anything but great. If your eyes are constantly itchy, gritty, or even “over-watering,” you might be dealing with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD).
How IPL Provides Relief
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy goes beyond temporary fixes like artificial tears. It uses gentle pulses of light to help your eyes feel their best:
  • Calms Inflammation: Reduces abnormal blood vessels that contribute to redness and swelling.
  • Clears Blocked Glands: Gently warms and liquefies hardened oils to get your glands flowing again.
  • Stabilizes Your Tears: Helps your natural tears stay on your eye longer for lasting comfort.
Why Four Treatments?
We often get asked why a series of four is necessary. It is because your eyes didn’t get dry overnight, and reclaiming your comfort takes a bit of consistency. Think of the 4-series as physical therapy for your tear film. It allows us to systematically clear the glands and get them working properly again. Once that foundation is built, a simple maintenance treatment every few months is often all it takes to keep your eyes feeling great.
Don’t let the Kern County spring keep you indoors. Our award-winning dry eye specialists are ready to help you find lasting relief and restore your comfort so you can enjoy the best time of year in the Valley.
Schedule your dry eye evaluation today and start your journey toward long-lasting relief.
