Are you experiencing facial skin laxity, such as jowls or cheek drooping, but aren’t ready for a surgical facelift? Empire Eye and Laser Center is excited to offer PDO Thread Lifts in Bakersfield. A PDO Thread Lift, often just called “threads,” can help treat mild to moderate skin laxity by tightening, sculpting, and lifting facial skin without invasive surgery. Sometimes called a “lunchtime lift” because of how quick it is, this minimally invasive procedure uses absorbable sutures under the skin to restore features to a tight, younger-looking position, including on the neck, jawline, lower face, cheeks, brows, and under-eyes. Best of all, with a PDO Thread Lift, there is virtually no downtime!

How does a PDO Thread Lift work?
During a PDO Thread Lift procedure, barbed polydioxanone (PDO) threads are delicately inserted under the skin using a specialized cannula to mechanically lift sagging tissues and restore them to a more youthful-looking position. In addition to lifting and tightening the skin physically, the PDO threads also activate the body’s “healing response,” stimulating continuous collagen production where they are placed. As the body gradually absorbs the threads over six months, they are replaced with fresh collagen, which helps secure the skin in its new position, reduces laxity (by thickening and hydrating the skin), and prevents laxity from getting worse (by strengthening the skin). By providing this ongoing and progressive rejuvenation, a PDO Thread Lift can help you achieve tighter, younger-looking features for 12 months or more. Unlike a surgical facelift, this procedure can be performed in under thirty minutes with only local anesthesia, and requires almost no recovery time for the patient!
How do PDO Smooth Threads work?
As the name implies, “Smooth” threads do not have barbs. Instead of physically repositioning the skin, the primary purpose of PDO Smooth Threads is to promote collagen production to restore a youthful volume and strengthen the tissue. As these threads are inserted under the skin in a crisscrossed pattern, they activate the body’s “healing response,” stimulating continuous collagen production where they are placed. Over time, the body gradually absorbs the threads leaving fresh collagen in their place which helps keep your skin smooth and tight. This can be especially useful to smooth out crepey skin in the neck area.

Am I a candidate for a PDO Threads?
Candidates for PDO Threads are generally experiencing early loosening of the facial structures or skin in the following areas:
- Neck
- Chin
- Cheeks
- Around the Mouth
- Brow
- Around the Eyes
Patients with a moderate degree of remaining skin elasticity, who are non-smokers and maintaining a stable weight will see the best results from this effective way to reverse the signs of facial aging. If you desire natural-looking results for firmer skin, then a thread lift may be the right procedure for you.
PDO Threads Consultation
To find out if a PDO Thread Lift or PDO Smooth Threads can help you achieve a more youthful, lifted appearance, schedule a free consultation with one of our Bakersfield aesthetic experts. We will examine your skin, talk about your goals, and develop a custom rejuvenation treatment plan. This plan will include the type and number of threads recommended to achieve your desired look, as well as a discussion of additional treatments to maximize your results. Many patients combine a PDO Threads treatment with rejuvenating injectables like Botox and Dermal Fillers to add volume and smooth wrinkles. We aim to achieve the best possible non-surgical facelift while maintaining your natural appearance and motion.

Recovery
One of the great benefits of PDO Threads is that there is very little downtime. Some bruising, swelling, and discomfort in the treatment area are common after the procedure, and ice packs can help with this. You should avoid high-impact exercise and yoga for two weeks, and keep exaggerated facial movements at a minimum for the first few days of your recovery as they may increase the chance of strain and discomfort during this period.
