Your BBL Journey: What to Expect

Pre-Treatment

  • Consultation: Before your treatment, we’ll assess your concerns and discuss your aesthetic goals to tailor a custom plan for you. Based on your evaluation, we’ll advise on the number of BBL treatments recommended. Generally, we suggest 2-5 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart for optimal results.
  • Preparation: In order to reduce the risk of complications, you’ll need to avoid any prolonged sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before treatment. You’ll also need to avoid using self-tanning lotions or spray tanning the month before treatment, and stop using retinol for one week prior to treatment and Accutane for three months prior.

Procedure Highlights

  • Light Bursts: The BBL handheld device will deliver quick bursts of light energy directly into your skin. Expect a mild, warm sensation often likened to a light “popping” feeling, similar to a gentle snap of a rubber band on the skin.
  • Eye Protection: Your eyes will be shielded with safety shields throughout the procedure.
  • Treatment Duration: The time needed for the procedure varies based on the treatment area’s size and your specific goals, but is generally quite a bit faster than traditional IPL methods.

Post-Treatment

  • Downtime: Virtually none! You can resume normal activities immediately after BBL.
  • Immediate Effects: While you might experience some redness and a sunburn-like sensation for a few hours, this is a temporary side effect.
  • Skin Changes: Freckles and sunspots may temporarily darken and then flake off within 7-14 days. This is a desired and normal reaction. To preserve results and avoid complications, you’ll want to minimize sun exposure in the weeks following treatment and make sure to use sunscreen.
  • Makeup and most skincare may be resumed immediately after the treatment, although you should avoid exfoliating products, retinol, and glycolic/salicylic acid for 1-2 weeks after treatment.

Maintenance

To maintain your results and stay ahead of aging-related skin changes we generally recommend taking advantage of BBL’s “Prejuvenation” benefits by having maintenance treatments every 3 – 6 months.
